Vasant Panchami, sometimes referred to as Basant Panchami or Shree Panchami , is a Hindu festival celebrating Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, music and art. It is celebrated every year on the fifth day (Panchami) of the Indian month Magh (January-February), the first day of spring.This festival is a jubilant occasion in Basara Gnana Saraswati Temple in Andhra Pradesh.

Also known as Saraswati Puja this festival is celebrated in Nepal, India and Bangladesh to invoke wisdom and consciousness in human beings. Goddess Saraswathi is the consort of Lord Brahma (Lord of Creation) and is the Goddess of wisdom and learning. Saraswati is the one who gives the essence (sara) of our own self (swa). She is considered as the personification of all knowledge - arts, sciences, crafts and other skills.

Pongal Greetings

Pongal is a festival when the natives of Tamil Nadu, in particular the farmer community, celebrate the Sun God and the farm animals. In Tamil Nadu, Pongal is celebrated with great pomp and show for 4 days. On Thai Pongal day, the entire family wakes up early in the morning take bath, wear new clothes and congregate in the courtyard to cook the customary Pongal (rice pudding). The eldest member of the family does the cooking of Pongal who is aided by the

other members. When milk begins to trickles from the pot, everybody shouts "Pongalo Pongal". This very moment signifies a promising sign. Some of the cooked meal is then put aside as a sign of thanks giving to the sun, nature and farmers. Later the left food is shared among the family, friends and neighbors.

Free sweets and langar or community lunches are also offered to everyone irrespective of religious faith. Men, women, and children, participate in this karseva as service to the community, cook food and distribute it in the 'Guru ka Langar', with the traditional 'Karah Prasad'.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji is the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. Sikhs believe that all subsequent Gurus possessed Guru Nanak's divinity and religious authority.
